Ontario's Class A license restriction is in force.

The restriction of the Class A license came to effect on July 1, 2022 in Ontario.

As of July 1, candidates taking a Class A or Class A restricted (AR) road test in a vehicle with an automatic, semi-automatic, or automated manual transmission are no longer permitted to operate Class A/AR vehicles with a manual transmission.

Anyone who passed their Class A/AR road test before July 1 is exempt from this limitation, but the drivers taking the Class A/AR test after that date are only permitted to drive Class A/AR cars with automatic, semi-automatic, or automated manual transmissions, and this limitation will be indicated on both their driving record and driver's licence.

This adjustment will hopefully improve road safety and be a positive change for the trucking industry.
